Modi Addresses NAM Summit
Since assuming office, Prime Minister Modi addressed the NAM summit for the first time.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an organisation with 120 member countries. It fights for the rights of people all over the world just like the United Nations. Yesterday PM Modi addressed the NAM summit for the first time since assuming office in 2014. In his speech, Modi said that all member countries of NAM must share their “experiences, crisis-management protocols, research, and resources”.He also said that COVID-19 is the most dangerous problem the world has faced. Because of this NAM must remain united and fight the problem together. The countries of the world need to focus on the welfare of people and not focus only on economic growth.
Pakistan President Arif Alvi had told the NAM that India was encouraging hate speeches against India’s Muslims and denying them treatment for COVID-19. PM Modi did not name Pakistan in his speech but said that “Even as the world fights COVID-19, some people are busy spreading other deadly viruses such as terrorism, such as fake news and doctored videos to divide communities and countries" But we must ignore such negative people and focus on fighting COVID-19. Modi said India has sent medicines to 123 countries including 59 members of NAM. India is working with the world to find a cure for COVID-19. Right now all countries must focus on making sure people are given medicines and control the spread of the virus.
