New Android Update Will Have Live Captions
Android will have Live Captions on all Video and Audio apps. This will be available for use without being connected to the internet as well.
In a blog post, Google wrote that, for 466 million deaf people around the world, captions are more than a comfort- they make information more accessible. At the latest Google press conference, a new version of their Android software “Android Q” was announced along with a feature called Live Caption. When this is turned on, you will see any video or audio you play on your phone will get very accurate subtitles, at the same time.
The Live Captions will be shown on top of whatever app you are using, be it YouTube, Instagram, video chat apps like Skype and Google Duo etc. It will also work with video or audio that you record by yourself.
Google Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai said that building for everyone means making sure that everyone has access to their products.The Live Captions subtitles are created in a way that they can work offline and will not need a data connection. No data will be sent to Google, which will ensure privacy. The subtitles cannot be saved for later. Once the audio or video is played, the text is gone.The feature will be released with Android Q which will release later this year and slowly make its way to all phones.
