New Pak PM Tells India to Solve Kashmir Issue
Hours after Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif asked him to come forward and address “the Kashmir issue”.
On Monday 11th April 2022, the Pakistan parliament elected Shehbaz Sharif as the new Prime Minister of the country. Shehbaz was the only candidate left in the race after the other candidate, Shah Mahmood Qureshi who was from Imran Khan’s party announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party would boycott the voting and staged a walkout. Shehbaz told the parliament, “We want good ties with India but peace is not possible until the Kashmir dispute is resolved.”He also said that Prime Minister Modi must come forward to address the Kashmir issue so that Pakistan and India could concentrate on tackling poverty, unemployment, shortage of medicines and other problems. He blamed Imran Khan and said, “When the forceful encroachment was done in August 2019 and Article 370 was abrogated, what serious efforts did we make...what serious diplomacy did we try...Kashmiris' blood is flowing on roads of Kashmir and the Kashmir Valley is red with their blood.”
Indian Prime Minister Modi said in a Twitter post, “Congratulations Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people,” Modi’s congratulatory tweet is similar to his first letter to Imran Khan in August 2018 when he became Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conveyed his wishes to new Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and urged him to 'curb terrorism' from Pakistan's soil. We will have to now wait and see what happens between India Pakistan’s relationship.
