Nirbhaya’s Rapists To Hang on 1st February
The President rejected Nirbhaya’s rapist’s mercy plea and the date for the execution has been set for 1st February 2020.
Nirbhaya’s rapists were supposed to hang on 22nd January but the execution was delayed because one of the rapists Mukesh Singh filed a mercy plea to the President Ram Nath Kovind.The rejected rejected the mercy plea on 17th January but the execution can not happen immediately. As per rule, execution can happen only after 14 days. This is why he will be hanged on 1st February exactly 14 days from 17th january.
Now the other three rapists have not filed a mercy plea with the President.If they do, the execution will be postponed again. Asha Devi mother of the victim in the Nirbhaya case said, "What's happening is exactly what the convicts wanted - tareeq pe tareeq (hearings after hearings). In the Indian, convicts are given priority."
