No Cable Tv for Three Hours Today
Cable operators in Mumbai have decided to observe a blackout protest from 7pm to 10pm.
The cable operators have decided to observe a blackout protest. From 7pm to 10pm, more than 15 lakh homes will not be able to watch any channel on their TV. They are doing this because, earlier this month, the TRAI short for The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India created new rules regarding the prices of different TV channels.
According to the new rules, people will have to pay a minimum of Rs 120 for all the free channels. Some channels are not free, so the consumers can select the ones they want and pay for it separately.
Consumers are currently paying Rs 350-Rs 400 per month for 450-500 channels. This includes the free channels as well.
Anil Parab the president of Cable Operators and Distributors Association said that, on an average a family watches 32 channels which includes news, sports, cartoons, entertainment, etc. Each channel costs around Rs 15, because of TRAI’s new rules a family will pay around Rs 600 plus GST.
The income will split in 80:10:10 ratio. Which means 80% of the income will go to the channels and only 10% will be given to the cable operators.
The cable operators are very unhappy about this. He also said that all over the world, paid channels are not allowed to show Ads, but in India they are allowed. They also want a share in the Ad revenue.
