Old Man Arrested For Raping Street Dog In Mumbai

On 11th March a 68-year-old man Ahmad Shah, was arrested for allegedly raping a female dog living on the streets in Mumbai.

On 11th March a 68-year-old man Ahmad Shah, a vegetable vendor and resident of Andheri West was arrested on Mumbai’s DN Nagar Police for allegedly raping a female dog living on the streets of Andheri West in last December.

An animal rights NGO's Vijay Mohnani from Bombay Animal Rights complained to the police and after that Ahmad Shah was arrested. Vijay Mohnani, submitted a video to the police in which Ahmad Shah could be seen raping the dog. Mohnani told the police, "I received a call from a resident of the area,  who told me there is a man in their area who rapes street dogs. “I asked him why he did not complain to the police earlier. The man said he knew the accused and had warned him not to repeat the act, but the accused kept repeating it and hence, he informed me about it.” Mohnani also alleged that people from Ahmad Shah's family had beaten up the person who shot the video.

On 9th March an FIR was registered under many sections of the  Indian Penal Code (IPC) and  Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. "The accused has been arrested and will be produced before a court,"  Bharat Gaikwad, Senior Inspector at the DN Nagar Police station.  In October last year, two people were arrested in separate cases for raping dogs in Mumbai.

Just as rapists are arrested and the victims taken to the hospital for treatment. Animals too have rights and Mohanani said that he will try to identify other dogs who may have been sexually assaulted by the accused and get them medical aid.
