Pakistan PM Not Invited for Modi's Swearing-In

Many leaders from neighboring countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan and Mauritius have been invited to attend the Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

PM Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony will be held on 30th May 2019. Many leaders from neighboring countries have been invited to attend the ceremony. This is to strengthen the relationship between the countries. Modi has invited leaders from the BIMSTEC which stands for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.

These include leaders from  Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan as well as Kyrgyzstan and Mauritius.

However PM Imran Khan of Pakistan was not sent an invitation. This is a strong message that India is not willing to engage with Pakistan yet. In 2014 PM Modi had invited then PM of Pakistan Nawas Sharif and hit it off personally. Multiple terrorist attacks in India by Pakistan has frozen those relationships. PM Imran Khan has been trying to create a friendship with India but PM Modi has stuck to the position that terror and talks cannot go together. The ceremony will be the same as 2014.  The dignitaries will arrive, there will be a few speeches. The ceremony will then begin by Modi and his cabinet taking an oath.

Foreign leaders will get to take individual pictures with the PM and the President but no meetings will be scheduled. After the group photos, the leaders will then go to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for a banquet. There are many rumours  BJP Chief Amit Shah will be asked to leave his post and PM Modi’s government.  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley he has to take a break for health reasons, rumours are that Amit Shah might replace him.
