'Pakistan Spy' Working at Indian Embassy in Moscow Arrested
Indian Embassy employee in Moscow arrested by UP ATS for spying for Pakistan's ISI.
Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (UP ATS) has arrested an employee of the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Russia for being a Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent from Meerut, UP. The accused is named Satyendra Siwal and belongs to Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. He was working in the Ministry of External Affairs and was posted as the India-Based Security Assistant (IBSA) in the Indian Embassy in Moscow since 2021. According to reports, ATS received multiple intelligence from several secret sources claiming that ISI handlers were luring employees of the Ministry of External Affairs with money to obtain confidential information. As it is a big threat to the internal and external security of India, ATS then started an investigation through electronic and physical surveillance and found that Siwal was involved. Based on these tips and the surveillance, Siwal was arrested. The ATS ordered Siwal to come to the ATS field unit in Meerut and was interrogated there. Initially, he gave unsatisfactory answers but later confessed to spying. According to ATS officials, Siwal was extracting confidential documents by using his position within the Indian Embassy. He passed critical confidential information including the day-to-day functioning & strategies of the Indian Army, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of External Affairs to ISI for money. The police have registered an FIR against Siwal under section 121A of the IPC for waging war against the country and Official Secrets Act 1923. Further investigation is underway.
