Paragliders Stuck On High Light Pole in Kerala
The Kerala police arrested three people in connection with a paragliding incident.
Many people love activities like paragliding, parasailing etc. A woman named Pavithra undertook paragliding activity with a trainer Sandeep from Papanasham Beach in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala through Adventures Sports Private Limited Company.
After ten minutes of flying, the direction of the wind changed. Meanwhile the restraining ropes became too tight to move.Pavithra and Sandeep got stuck on a high-mast light. The height of the lamp post is about 100 feet. Sandeep and Pavithra were 80 feet above the ground. Both of them were rescued after about a two-hour long effort. The rescue operations were conducted by the police and the fire brigade. The fire brigade spread a safety net around the lamp post. Mattresses were brought from the nearby resort to reduce the impact of the fall. Since the fire brigade did not have a ladder that was tall enough and it was difficult to organize a crane that could reach a height of 80 feet, the rescue plan was to lower the columns of the high mast to bring them to safety. Thereafter, the pole was lowered and the woman and the paragliding instructor were rescued. Both of them were admitted to the hospital and are safe. While Sandeep suffered injuries on his hand, Pavithra was unhurt.
Sandeep is a native of Uttarakhand and said that he has a paragliding license. He also explained that the accident was caused by a sudden gust of wind. The police arrested Sandeep and employees of paragliding company, Shreyas and Prabhudev. A case has also been taken against Fly Adventures Sports Private Limited Company. Police said the owners of the company are on the run. The police clarified that the company did not have permission for paragliding in Papanasham Beach in Varkala. The paragliding company employee had got the signature of Pavithra on a stamped white paper. The police said there is mystery in the company's activities and further questioning is required. Pavithra said that although she often comes to Varkala, she is paragliding for the first time. Pavithra told police that all this time death was in front of her.
This is not the first time that paragliding incidents have turned into horrifying accidents. Last year in December, two men died in two separate paragliding incidents in the country within 24 hours.
