Partial Lockdown May Be Imposed in Delhi
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted some markets could be shut down for a few days since coronavirus cases are rising in the National Capital.
After suffering from first and second waves in June and September respectively, Delhi was hit by the third wave of COVID-19 infections at the end of October. From November first week, the daily tally of infections in Delhi started increasing. On 11th November, the number of new infections on day 8,593. On 12th November 104 died in 24 hours. This was the highest number of deaths in a day. Despite all this, a minister from the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government said the lockdown won't return. But now Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted some markets could be shut down for a few days since these markets have become hotspots. Air pollution was another reason for the rise
Kejriwal said this is because during the Diwali shopping people did not follow precautions which is why the number of cases has increased. He also said only 50 people will be allowed at public gatherings, hereon.
On Monday 16th November, 3,797 fresh cases were registered. Though this number is less, the people of Delhi must not be happy because the officials are testing very few people. The Central Government said more ICU beds will be made available, RT-PCR tests will be doubled, and a house-to-house survey will also be done.
