PM Modi Suggest Coronavirus Fund at SAARC
At the SAARC 2020 summit, PM Modi suggested the Coronavirus emergency fund, to which India will contribute $10 million (approx Rs. 74 crores).
SAARC stands for the “South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation”. SAARC provides a platform for the peoples of South Asia to work together in a spirit of friendship, trust, and understanding. It aims to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia and to improve their quality of life through economic growth and social progress. The members of SAARC are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The SAARC 2020 summit was held yesterday and PM Modi attended the conference via video-conference. This is because of the WHO’s advice to avoid all public gatherings.
Modi said that "Prepare, don't panic" has been our mantra. Modi told the world leaders, "The Indian government evacuated nearly 1400 Indians from different countries. We also similarly helped some of the citizens of our neighboring countries. "PM Modi said that "We do not know how much the virus will spread and what will happen in the future. This is why all the countries must be united.”Modi gave the idea of a Coronavirus emergency fund, to which India will contribute $10 million (approx Rs. 74 crores).
He said all nations can make voluntary contributions to the fund, which will be accessible to each SAARC member. Modi said that India is assembling a rapid response team of doctors and specialists, virus testing kits and other equipment. Modi offered them to other SAARC nations if required. All SAARC leaders suggested a coordinated response to the coronavirus outbreak and make sure the economies of various countries are stable.
