PVR to Make Theatres Disabled Friendly
PVR theatre introduces disabled friendly equipment in theatres across India.
India’s largest multiplex chain PVR Cinemas has announced ‘Accessible Cinema Program’ for the deaf, blind and physically handicap.They made this decision on World Disability Day.
The theatre will provide facilities such as stair lift, roll-a-ramps and wheelchair friendly seats to people with physical disabilities. The wheelchair friendly seats will be marked on the PVR App, which will make booking tickets very easy.
By 30 June 2019, 95 theatres and 230 screens across india will have such facilities.
The theatre will also provide audio description for the blind. This will be available on an app called XL App which is available on android as well as IOS. The app will explain what is going on in the movie through headphones.
Subtitles for the deaf will be available on all the movie shows after 6:00pm. This will be only for those movies which are released with subtitles. The company has asked the producers to help with audio description and subtitles.
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint MD of PVR said that, they want everyone to enjoy watching movies in theatres. He said that by doing this they feel they are helping a large unserved section of society.
