The Indian National Congress has created a new scheme called Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) or minimum income guarantee.On 25th March, President Rahul Gandhi announced that under this scheme, Congress has promised to provide 20% of the poorest families in the country Rs 72,000 each year if his party won the elections. NYAY states that families should earn Rs 12,000 per month. According to this scheme, the data on national income distribution says that even the poorest of families are able to earn Rs 6,000 per month.
The Congress has promised to pay the difference which is Rs 6,000 per month to the families. Once the families are able to earn Rs 12,000 on their own, the payments will stop. Rahul Gandhi said that 5 crore families will be lifted out of poverty under NYAY. His aim is to completely wipe out poverty from the country.
Rahul Gandhi said that all the calculations have been done. Congress is sure that the finances for this project are available. He said he is in touch with various economists who agree with the scheme. This scheme will cost Rs 3.6 lakh crore. He said that if Narendra Modi can give money to the rich people in the country, then Congress can give the money to the poor.
