SC Orders Govt to Restore Normalcy in J&K
The Supreme Court has instructed the J&K government to restore normalcy in the valley with CJI Ranjan Gogoi even warning to visiting the valley if the law is ignored.
Many petitions were filed in the Supreme Court (SC) regarding the conversion of J&K in to a UT and the removal of Article 370. The petitions filed said that the Indian government had not followed the constitution and made J&K into a UT. Petitions also said that, the government has stopped all forms of communication and people are not allowed to move around freely as well. People were not allowed to go to the J&K High Court as well.
After listening to all these petitions, the SC has told the J&K government to make sure the situation in J&K is normal. The SC has said that, the public must be allowed to go to hospitals, use public transport and go to schools and colleges without any problems. The SC said that the government must make sure to relax the rules but they must also make sure that India is protected and there is no terrorist activities in Pakistan. CJI Ranjan Gogoi said that if required he will visit J&K to make sure the SC’s rules are followed.
After the conversion of J&K into a UT, Ex-CM of J&K and MP Farooq Abdullah was placed under an unofficial house arrest. Now the government has officially arrested him under the Public Safety Act. This law focuses on maintaining safety in areas in emergency situations. This law has two parts 'Public Order' and 'Threat to security of the state'. The government arrested Farooq Abdullah because he was not helping to maintain public order. He is the first politician to face such a strict punishment after J&K was turned into a UT.
