Sena Fails, Governor Calls NCP
In another stalemate the Shiv Sena has failed to form a coalition government with the NCP and the Congress.
After 35 years the Shiv Sena has officially broken its alliance with the BJP and is out of the NDA. Arvind Sawant was the only Minister from the Shiv Sena who was part of the PM Modi’s Cabinet. Yesterday he resigned from the cabinet because BJP used to accept the Shiv Sena’s demands. It's been 18 days since the election results were announced in Maharashtra but no political party has formed the government yet.
On 11th November Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari had given the Shiv Sena time upto 7:30pm to inform him if they had enough seats to form a government. The Shiv Sena tried very hard to get support from the Congress and NCP. However it could not get the support of the two parties.
Since the Shiv Sena were not able to get support to form the government, now the Governor has given NCP time until 8:30 pm to get enough seats to form the government.
Now there are five things that can happen.
-
The Congress can support the NCP but without Sena’s support they will not have enough seats to form the government. Sena will not give up the CM post, which the NCP also wants. So Shiv Sena will not accept to join NCP.
-
If NCP fails, the Governor will ask Congress to form government. It will face the same problem as the NCP and will not get Sena’s support.
-
If Congress and NCP both fail, the Governor will impose President's rule. But in the next few days, if the three parties come to an agreement a government can be formed.
-
Many say there is still hope for the BJP. Some say that the BJP can go to the governor supporting another party.
-
If the Governor feels that no party can form the government even after President’s Rule, he may order fresh elections.
