Spain Hosts ‘Balcony Cinema’ During Lockdown
In order to entertain the residents of Madrid during the lockdown, the Madrid City Council has launched an initiative called ‘Balcony Cinema’. Watch our latest video to learn all about it.
In Spain, there are 2.3 lakh coronavirus cases and over 24,000 deaths. Spain is now the second worst-hit country in the coronavirus outbreak after the United States. Spain has been under lockdown since March 14. According to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's Spain is hoping to relax the lockdown in four phases by June-end. Madrid is the Capital of Spain. In order to keep the citizens of Madrid entertained during the difficult lockdown, the Madrid City Council collaborated with Amazon Prime Video and Exterior Plus.
They launched an initiative called, ‘Cine de Balcón’ which means balcony cinema. It involves large LED screens mounted on top of trucks that park themselves in neighborhoods so that people can watch movies from their balconies. For two weeks, the trucks will continue to move across different Madrid neighborhoods. The screening begins at 8:10 pm right after the residents are done clapping for healthcare workers. After each screening, a few awareness messages are flashed onto the screens.
A Madrid resident said, "I've been alone the whole month in this small, tiny apartment in quarantine and I want to feel connected in real life. When I saw the movie from the balcony, I felt connected with my neighbors. It made me very happy”
