Sri Lanka: Man Hangs on Rope While Flying Kite
A man in Sri Lanka was lifted 30 feet in the air when he tried to bounce while holding onto the rope of a kite.
At Point Pedro in Jaffna, Sri Lanka a group of boys were practising to fly kites for the upcoming festival. A video of the incident went viral on social media and shocked everyone. The group of men were putting all efforts to lift a large kite tied to thick jute ropes. As the kite began to glide up, the team slowly started to let the rope go, however, one person held onto the rope. His friends were shouting frantically, asking him to leave the rope before the large kite began to climb higher. The wind speed was very high and the kite began to rise quickly. In a split second the man was at least 30 feet above the ground and suspended in the air. The man was seen clinging to his life for nearly a minute before letting go and falling to the ground.
Thankfully he did not sustain any serious injuries. Kite flying is a popular sport held during Thai Pongal, a harvest festival which will be celebrated in the second week of January next year. During this festive period, Sri Lanka Tamil farmers honour the Sun God Suriyapakaran. Extremely creative kites are created from scratch and flown by groups of friends and family.
