T20 World Cup to be Held in UAE & Oman
BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly announced that the T20 World Cup which was supposed to take place in India, will now be held in UAE & Oman.
At the start of June, the ICC had given the BCCI 4-weeks to decide whether India could host the T20 tournament because of the rising cases of the coronavirus. After 4 weeks India had to make a decision and inform the ICC. BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly on Monday 28th June said that the T20 World Cup which was supposed to take place in India, will now be held in UAE & Oman because of the COVID-19 concerns. The details are being chalked out. The matches will be played across 4 cricket grounds in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and also Oman. The decision was taken to keep the players and staff safe during the tournament, the world cup has been moved. Even though the matches have been moved to the UAE, the BCCI will continue to be the host of the tournament. The T20 World Cup will start on the 17th of October and the last will be played on the 14th of Nov.
The IPL will also be held in UAE from September 19 to October 15. Immediately after that the T20 world cup will be held. This would be a big headache for the BCCI as they will have to host both IPL and T20 world cup in such a short time. Another problem is that with so less time between IPL and T20 World Cup, it could leave franchises sweating over the availability of foreign players.England have already made it clear that it will not release the players for the IPL. Australia is also likely to follow suit.
