A dangerous case of kidnapping and murder occured in Mahabubabad, Telangana. Let me tell you what happened. Mahabubabad Superintendent of Police (SP), N Koti Reddy, told reporters that Mandha Sagar, a 23-year-old mechanic, had kidnapped Deekshith, a 9 year old boy, on 18th October evening to earn easy and quick money. He was known to the child’s family. The boy’s father Ranjith Reddy is a reporter for Telugu TV channel T News. The official said that Mandha Sagar also conducted a recce of the place and chose the time when Deekshith and his younger brother were playing outside their home in the evening. He lured the boy to a place where he knew no CCTV cameras were installed and took off with him on a bike with a fake number plate. Two hours later, the boy’s parents received a call on their mobile phone from a private number demanding ?45 lakh ransom to set him free. Worried parents rushed to the police who swung into action forming dedicated teams with specific tasks to trace the boy.
Normally, police would have tracked the abductors by tracing the phone calls. In this case, they could not because the incoming call kept showing ‘private number’. Police realized the kidnapper was using an app that helps you make calls through the internet. Police immediately sent emails to 10 such App companies for information about the calls. This gave the police some clues. When police questioned the locals, the police suspected it was Sagar that kidnapped the boy. After much searching they tracked Sagar and caught him.
On question Sagar confessed. He said the boy recognised him and kept asking him to take him home. Sagar got scared that the boy would tell his parents about the kidnapping. So Sagar gave him a sleeping pill. Once the boy was unconscious, Sagar choked the boy and killed him. Later, Sagar took the body to a hillock in the nearby Thallapoosalapally forest area, poured petrol on the body and set it ablaze. Sagar said he began the ransom calls after killing the boy. He then led the police to the boy’s decomposed body.
