Four gunmen attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi on Monday 29th June 2020. The terrorists threw grenades at the entrance of the busy building and tried to enter. They opened fire at everyone after which the police and Pakistan Rangers arrived. All four gunmen were killed. The building and its neighbouring areas were sealed and people who were inside were evacuated from the back door. Media reports said that four security guards and a police sub-inspector were killed. Two civilians were also killed in the attack. At Least 7 others have been injured and there are concerns that the number of deaths could increase.
Deputy superintendent of police (South), Jamil Ahmed said, “The Army and police officials managed to kill all 4 gunmen and the gunmen were not able to enter the building. Even though firing was going on outside the building, the trading in the building continued. Explosives, hand grenades and food supplies were recovered from the bodies of the gunmen. It shows that they had come with a plan for a long siege at the building” The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) linked Majeed Brigade (group) claimed responsibility for the attack. President Arif Alvi in his statement said that the terrorists will never succeed in their nefarious designs. Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack and said the country is determined to root out terrorism from its soil and the entire nation is proud of the valiant personnel (brave) of the security agencies.
