Thane College Fake Certificate Scam

Students precious academic years were wasted in a fake certificate scam, run by a college in Thane.

The NETT Paramedical College in Thane, has been involved in a scam of fake certificates. Now it has to repay students their fees. The total amount comes up to Rs. 4 crore for nearly 400 students.

Dr Purushotham Tahilramani, was the Chairman of the college. In January, he was arrested by the Thane Crime Branch for allegedly helping pharmacists to get fake HSC and D Pharma certificates. He was later released on bail. He said that they would refund a total of Rs 4 crore to 400 students. He said that they have already issued cheques of Rs 2 crore and the remaining 2 crore would be refunded by October. For the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Diploma in Pharmacy courses, the students have paid yearly fees between Rs 1 Lakh and Rs 1.6 Lakhs

The NETT College had a collaboration with the OPJS University in Churu in Rajasthan, to conduct courses such as Bachelor of Pharmacy, Diploma in Pharmacy etc. However, when a group of students did not receive their second year marksheets, they travelled to the Rajasthan University to enquire about it. There the OPJS University told them that their first year mark sheets were all fake, and that the courses were not valid.

Tahilramani said that he was scammed by the Rajasthan University. According to him, NETT was supposed to conduct classes for the courses, while the OPJS University were supposed to conduct the exams and issue the certificates. He said that the University in Rajasthan had approved of 60 seats. They had already filled in the 60 seats themselves, and now they also expected the NETT to fill 60 seats. He said that they were not aware of this. He said that the OPJS University was not returning the certificates of many students and were holding back the marksheets of the students of the 10th and 12th std students as well.

The OPJS University has denied having any association with Nett. the OPJS Registrar, Dr Jitender Yadav said that they do not have any tie up with anyone. He said that he would give further explanation during working hours.

Student organisations have raised the issue, and have demanded that NETT should be punished for cheating their students and destroying their precious academic years.
