The second wave of Covid-19 has hit the country with immense sadness, devastating lives everywhere. One such heart-wrenching story has emerged from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Joefred Gregory and Ralphred Gregory were born on 23rd April 1997. They were identical twins. They celebrated their 24th birthday in April. The brothers, born three minutes apart, did most things together. Both 6 feet tall, they went to college together and completed their B.Tech in Coimbatore. They had plans to go abroad. The twins developed fever just after their birthday. It was diagnosed that they had Covid-19. For days, the family treated them at home, bought an oximeter and gave them medication. As their condition worsened, they were admitted to Anand hospital in Meerut on 1st May. On May 10, both tested negative for Covid and the family was overjoyed. However they received a call at 11 pm on 13th May from Anand hospital, Meerut about the death of Joefred Gregory. Joefred complained of breathing issues earlier that day.
Ralphred was in the same hospital. He called his mother and asked about his twin. He was told that Joefred had to be moved to a hospital in Delhi. But he said, "Ma, you are lying," His condition also deteriorated, and he passed away on 14th May. They died just hours apart. Their father Gregory Raphael said, “On May 10, both tested negative for Covid and the family was overjoyed. Three days later, our world came crashing... When Joefred died, I had a sixth sense that Ralphred would not make it. Simply because they were inseparable. Our family is broken. Covid took away my sons.”
