Twins Born With 2 Heads & 1 Arm in Odisha
In Odisha twin-girls are born who are joined at the chest and abdomen. The twin girls have two heads and three hands
In Odisha at a private nursing home in the Kendrapara district, a woman named Ambika, gave birth to twin-girls through caesarean section. However the twin-girls are joined at the chest and abdomen and have two heads and three hands. The condition is medically known as ‘Siamese Twins’, and it is a very rare condition. Ambika and the twins were shifted from the private nursing home to the district hospital after their birth. They were later shifted to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Postgraduate Institute of Paediatrics in Cuttack for specialised care and treatment because their condition became worse. Their condition is now stable.
Dr Debasish Sahoo, a pediatric doctor said, “The girls are eating with two mouths and breathing with two noses. After an ultrasound of the babies, details of the abnormality will be known. The number of abnormal births have decreased because of awareness among mothers to take medicines on time and go for regular ultrasound. But in rural areas there is no awareness.”
The father of the babies has sought the state government’s help for the treatment of the twins. In 2017, the Odisha government had borne the cost of the successful separation and treatment of conjoined twins Jaga and Kalia at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
