Understanding PCOD and PCOS
Sara Ali Khan opens up about her struggle with PCOD, spreading awareness about women’s health and hormonal issues.
PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) are common health problems many women face today. They mostly affect women between the ages of 12 and 45 and are linked to problems with periods, hormones, weight, and fertility.
In PCOD, the ovaries release immature eggs, which turn into small cysts. In PCOS, the body produces more male hormones, which stop eggs from being released properly, leading to larger cysts and hormone imbalance.
Key Differences:
- PCOD causes slight period delays, while PCOS can completely stop periods.
- PCOD is often caused by lifestyle issues like stress and unhealthy food. PCOS is more serious and related to hormone and body imbalances.
- PCOD can be managed with healthy habits. PCOS may need medical treatment too.
- PCOS can increase risks of diabetes, heart issues, and high BP.
Common Symptoms:
- Irregular or missed periods
- Heavy bleeding
- Unwanted hair growth
- Acne and oily skin
- Weight gain and hair loss
- Dark patches on skin
Simple Tips to Manage PCOD/PCOS:
