US Attacks Venezuela, Arrests President Nicolas Maduro And His Wife
The US launched a major attack on Venezuela and captured President Nicolas Maduro in a fast, high-risk military operation.
The world entered 2026 with a major global shock as the United States launched a large-scale military operation against Venezuela. On 3 January 2026, at 2 AM, the US carried out Operation Absolute Resolve, where more than 150 fighter jets bombed Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. Over 40 people were killed, and videos of the attack quickly spread online.
The biggest surprise was the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, First Lady Cilia Flores. US President Donald Trump himself shared the first photo of Maduro on Truth Social. After the capture, both were taken to New York City on the US Navy warship USS Iwo Jima. President Trump called the mission one of the most powerful and effective actions by the American military.
The US has accused Maduro of running a corrupt and illegitimate government, supporting illegal activities, and sending drugs into the United States. US intelligence found his location inside the Fuerte Tiuna military complex, and the US Army practised the operation by building a replica of the building. On 2 January, Trump approved the mission. Soon after, Venezuela’s air defence systems and electricity were disabled, and US forces captured Maduro before he could enter a steel safe room.
The operation was carried out by Delta Force, the same unit that killed Osama Bin Laden and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Trump later said the US will run Venezuela until a new leader is chosen. Many experts believe the real reason behind the attack may be Venezuela’s huge oil reserves and China’s growing influence. World reactions remain mixed, raising major concerns about global stability.
