USA: White Men Attack Black Man in Alabama
Racially-charged dock brawl in Montgomery, Alabama involves multiple participants, leading to injuries and arrests.
A massive brawl broke out on Saturday, August 5, on a dock in Montgomery, Alabama. The incident occurred at around 7pm. Dozens of people were involved in the fight, which has been captured on video. The battle began after a group of boaters attacked a Montgomery Riverfront dock worker. As per a witness, the group of boaters refused to move their boat to allow another boat to dock. When a black dock worker requested a shirtless man to move the boat, the shirtless man is seen starting the fight, running up and punching the dock worker in the face. The two then struggle, before two more men join in to assault the staffer. A woman is heard screaming and urging others to help. A man is then seen running to the dock and jumping in the river, swimming over to help the staffer being beaten up. Several other people quickly approach the area, trying to defend the worker, and the video ends. The conflict escalated when a group of about six Black men from the riverboat confronted the white party. Cheered on by bystanders, they beat three white men and two women, at least one of whom could be seen first striking others by running up and throwing her body into them from behind. At least two of the women jumped or were pushed into the river. A third was beaten over the head with a folding chair, video showed. After the arrival of police officers, the brawl subsided – and then briefly reignited before police began cuffing the participants, who were both Black and white. Montgomery’s mayor, Steven Reed, said in a statement on Sunday that several people involved in the fighting on Saturday evening have been detained. Many people are saying this was a racial attack as white people were attacking a black man. The police are currently reviewing the video and making more arrests. The government has promised to take strict action.
