Viral Video: Tourist Killed During Elephant Fight at Dubare Camp in Karnataka

A tragic incident at Dubare Elephant Camp claimed the life of a Chennai woman after two elephants fought during a bathing session, prompting stricter tourist safety rules.

On 18 May 2026, a family outing to the famous Dubare Elephant Camp ended in tragedy when a 33-year-old woman from Chennai lost her life during the morning elephant bathing session near the Cauvery River.

According to reports, two trained elephants, Kanjan and Marthanda, suddenly began fighting after one accidentally brushed against the other. Despite efforts by the mahouts to control them, one elephant charged, causing the other to lose balance and fall onto the woman, who was standing nearby.

She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Her husband and young daughter, who were present during the incident, escaped with minor injuries.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread concern about tourist safety at wildlife attractions.

Following the tragedy, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre ordered a detailed investigation and announced stricter safety rules. Tourists must now stay at least 100 feet away from elephants during bathing sessions. Selfies, close interaction, feeding, and touching the animals have also been prohibited.
