Weird Fact About Vehicle Insurance

Having a good insurance policy if you own a vehicle is a must, but do you know about this weird law related to your Vehicle Insurance? Watch Full Story

Do you own a car or a bike? Do you have car/bike insurance? If not now do you have plans to buy a car/bike in the future? If your answer to any of these question is “Yes”. Then we have a weird yet an amazing fact related to Car Insurance you probably don’t know. The main purpose to have a car or a bike insurance is to protect your vehicle against any sorts of unwanted events like theft, accident or unintentional damage. But What if we tell you that the insurance company won’t approve your claim even if your car or bike is lost just in case you don’t have both the original keys of the vehicle. When you buy a vehicle, you are given two keys at the time of vehicle delivery. Two keys are given to assure the smooth functioning of the vehicle even if one of the keys is lost or broken. But do you know the insurance company might not approve your insurance claim against “theft” if one of these two keys are lost.

This is because the insurance is considered to be against the condition if the vehicle is taken away by a thief and not against the owner’s negligence like leaving the key inside the vehicle. And also to prevent fraud, where the owner might himself hide the vehicle somewhere and claim it to be lost, the clause to present both the keys while claiming the insurance has been made by the insurance companies. Now you might have a question in your head that “what if your key is lost unintentionally?” So in that condition where your key is lost unintentionally, these are the only steps you can take.

  • On losing your car keys, you need to report it to the police and get an FIR (First Information Report). Also, inform the insurance company  about the loss of key(s) before getting another key made in case you are getting duplicate keys made instead of getting the entire lockset replaced.

  • At the time of filing the insurance claim, apart from submitting both the keys to the insurance company, you must keep the following things: insurance policy details, vehicle details, and copy of the FIR regarding the lost key.

This might help you to make your case stronger in order to claim your vehicle insurance against theft or loss even if one of your Car’s keys is lost. Anyway, did you know about this insurance policy, if not already then what do you think about this? Do let us know in the comment section.
