Heart-wrenching videos of a mother beating her child had gone viral. The video showed the mother, Thulasi brutally beating her 1 and half - 2 year old baby with her fist. Her blows were so hard that the baby started to bleed from the nose and mouth. Shockingly, Thulasi used to hit her child often and had also recorded it on her mobile phone. When Thulasi’s relatives saw videos of her hitting her child on her phone, they immediately informed her husband, Vadivazhagan about them. 

Vadivazhagan claimed that on 22nd February the toddler had suffered injuries on his knees for which he was given medical treatment, and prior to that he had been found with wounds on his mouth as well. After seeing the videos, Vadivazhagan realised that Thulasi had caused the injuries. They married in 2016, and  have an older child aged four. He then registered a complaint against her at Sathyamangalam police station. In the complaint he said that the couple had a difference of opinion after which he dropped Thulasi at her mother’s home around 40 days ago. Based on the husband’s complaint, the police registered an FIR. A special team of police from Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu on 29th August arrested the  woman from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.  Police said she was picked up from her mother’s residence. A video of the assault had gone viral, after which netizens and child welfare activists demanded immediate police action over the incident. Following her arrest, Thulasi was brought to [Box 06 Gingee and taken for psychiatric consultation. Further investigation is underway.

CORRECTION: The age of the baby is 1 and half to 2 years.
