World Cup 2019 : India Vs Afghanistan
India scrape through a win against Afghanistan winning in the last over after a bad outing by the batsmen
India played against Afghanistan in Southhampton on Saturday, June 22nd in a very close match that went down to the last over, India who won the toss and decided to bat first was not up to the mark and struggled to get a foothold losing wickets regularly only Virat Kohli and Kedar Jadhav made scores that contributed 67 & 52 respectively.
With India’s batsman not being able to take advantage of a weak Afghanistan team they only scored 224-8 in 50 overs, while Afghanistan came out batting to win, scoring a quick 106-2 at this point Kohli sensed India were losing there way and sent in Bumrah to save the day and he sure did, taking 2 quick wickets in 3 balls this slowed down the Afghanistan attack and gave India some breathing room.
When Mohammad Nabi came in he got a good knock going scoring 52 which got them to the last over where they required 16 runs to win with 3 wickets in hand, victory seemed so close for them and very possible. But Mohammad Shami had other ideas, in the last over he was hit for a four on his first ball, making it 12 runs in 5 balls to win, but in the next four balls he showed his genius with a dot ball and then finishing off the Afghanistan team with an amazing Hat-Trick the first of this World Cup.
Afghanistan were bowled out for 213 runs with only one ball left, Shami’s hat-trick being the deciding factor from a loss and the win, There was controversy during the game when Captain Virat Kohli was fined and given one demerit point for “excessive appealing” when he advanced towards the umpire while appealing a lbw, this is not allowed.
He was cut 25% of his match fee. Kohli has two points already and if he gets two more in the next 2 years he will receive a match ban. Kohli accepted the punishment and will not fight it.
