Xiaomi Beats Apple and Becomes World's No. 2 Smartphone Brand
Xiaomi is now the world’s second-largest smartphone brand, surpassing Apple in August 2024.
Xiaomi, the well-known Chinese electronics and software company, has recently surpassed Apple in global smartphone sales for August 2024, making it the world’s second-largest smartphone brand, according to Counterpoint Technology Market Research’s Smartphone 360 Monthly Tracker report.
This is the first time Xiaomi has reached this position since 2021, highlighting its rapid growth in the smartphone market. The company is famous for its affordable devices, including the popular Redmi 13 and Note 13 series, known for their 5G capabilities.
Xiaomi’s success has been attributed to effective promotions in Latin America, helping it improve its image and increase sales in that region. Experts believe that Xiaomi's strategy of simplifying its product lineup to one model per price segment, along with its innovative design and integrated generative AI features, played a crucial role in its recent achievements.
Meanwhile, Apple experienced a seasonal decline in sales, dropping to third place, which caused its shares to fall by nearly 3%. However, analysts expect Apple to regain the second position soon with the upcoming launch of the iPhone 16 series. Samsung continues to hold its spot as the world’s number one smartphone brand this year.
