Zaki Anwari: Afghan Footballer Falls to Death from US Plane
Afghan authorities have confirmed that a young footballer fell to his death after trying to stow away on a US military plane leaving Kabul airport.
You are all aware about the US Flight that took off amid a chaotic Kabul airport. Minutes after takeoff, 3 people fell off the flight and died. The videos went viral and shocked people across the world. After the flight landed, the US army found human remains on the flight as well. In a statement on Facebook, Afghanistan's General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports said that one of the persons who fell from the flight was Zaki Anwari, 19. Anwari was part of Afghanistan’s official youth football team. The association also said, ‘May he rest in heaven and pray to God for his family, friends and sports colleagues.’
When the news spread people were heartbroken that a young talented player had to endure such a tragic death. Around 4,500 US troops are in temporary control of Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
The Taliban are blocking Afghans from entering the airport without travel documents - but even those with valid authorisation have struggled. Mr Biden said that US troops may have to stay in Afghanistan beyond the planned 31 August deadline agreed with the Taliban, in order to help with evacuations.
