April Fool's Day is celebrated on April 1 every year and the day is filled with jokes and laughter and is looked forward to for all the happiness it generates. It is that one day in the year when people can get away with almost anything unless it is of criminal tendencies. According to History.com, some historians say that April Fools day was started in 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar (April) to the Gregorian calendar. The Julian calendar was the calendar used from 46 B.C to 1582 AD, it was invented by Julius Caesar who was a roman king. New Year used to be celebrated on March-end according to the Julian Calendar but later in the year 1582 Pope Gregory XIII found that there were several scientific mistakes in the Julian Calendar. So he introduced a new calendar which we use even today, This calendar is called “The Gregorian Calendar” according to this calendar the new year falls on January 1
Also according to some popular beliefs It was April 1, when the change of calendar from Julian to Gregorian was initiated, and the new year would be on 1st Jan. Hence making it the most commonly believed reason for celebrating the day. Reportedly, while many refused to accept the change and continued following the Julian calendar, France was the first country to accept and implement the new calendar. As per History.com, the forgetful ones who celebrated New Year on April 1 were trolled and mocked on the day and had paper fish stuck on their backs, indicating that they were fools. While April Fools’ Day is technically considered very popular across the world, many countries have adopted the idea of playing pranks on or around April 1st. For example, France celebrates April Fools’ Day on April first by sticking a paper fish onto the backs of as many people as possible, while yelling “Poisson d’Avril!” which means “April’s Fool” in french.
In Greece, successfully pranking someone on this day is said to bring the prankster good luck for the entire year. Recently April Fool’s day has also gained importance in India as people all across the country can be seen pranking their close ones on this day. However if you don't already remember let us remind you that 1st April is around the corner, so do you already have a prank ready to make your close one’s an “April fool”?
