The Indian government has allocated substantial financial aid to the states of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh in the latest budget. This move is widely seen as a response to the demands of key coalition allies from the recent Lok Sabha elections, Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar.
Some reports had suggested that Naidu might have requested over ?1 lakh crore for Andhra Pradesh, while Nitish Kumar was believed to be seeking ?30,000 crore for Bihar.
Bihar's Financial Allocation:
Bihar has been granted ?26,000 crore for various development projects. These include:
- Construction of four expressways
- Several bridges
- Sports infrastructure
- Medical colleges
- A new airport
- Comprehensive development of Vishnupad Temple Corridor and Mahabodhi Temple Corridor
Additionally, ?11,500 crore has been allocated for enhancing flood management and irrigation projects to prevent floods.
Andhra Pradesh's Financial Allocation:
Andhra Pradesh will receive ?15,000 crore under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for the development of its capital, Amaravati. This fund will be used for essential infrastructure like:
- Water supply
- Power
- Railways
- Roads
Moreover, the Centre will create a plan called 'Purvodaya' for the overall development of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
