10 Pakistani Cricketers Test COVID Positive
A total of 10 Pakistan cricketers have tested positive for COVID-19, right before their England tour.
On 23rd June three cricketers, Shadab Khan, Haider Ali and Haris Rauf had tested positive. Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday 24th June revealed that seven more Pakistani cricketers tested positive coronavirus. Now the total number of coronavirus positive cricketers is ten. Muhammad Hafeez and Wahab Riaz have also tested positive and they were selected to play for the Pakistan vs England cricket matches.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO, Wasim Khan told a media conference, “It is not a great situation. It shows that these are 10 fit and young athletes, if it can happen to players it can happen to anyone.
He said that a support staff member Malang Ali had also tested positive for coronavirus. Khan said that the players and officials gathered in Lahore and another round of tests was carried out on 25th June. Depending on the tests a revised squad would be announced. The squad will leave for England on 28th June. They will be playing Test Matches and T20 matches against England.
Khan said, "It is a matter of concern but we should not panic at this time as we still have time for the tour.”
He added that the players and officials would be retested on reaching England. When they reach England, they will be quarantined for 14 days in England but will be allowed to practise in a safe environment.
