10th Class Boy’s Suicide at Delhi Metro from School Bullying

A 16-year-old Delhi student, Shourya Patil, died by suicide after severe bullying by teachers, sparking nationwide anger and demands for stronger action against school harassment.

A very sad incident took place on 18 November 2025 in Delhi, where a 16-year-old Class 10 student, Shourya Patil from St. Columba’s School, died by suicide after jumping from Platform 2 of Rajendra Place Metro Station. He fell from the height and passed away on the spot.

Shourya was a talented dancer and athlete, but in school he had been facing bullying and harsh behaviour from some teachers for more than a year. They scolded him loudly, insulted him in front of classmates, and even pushed him physically. After he fell during a dance practice, teachers accused him of acting and even threatened to stop him from taking his exams. His family said they complained to the school many times, but nothing changed.

On the day of the incident, Shourya left the school from the back gate without informing his parents and went to the Rajendra Place Metro Station with his uncle and a friend. People at the station tried to calm him, but he climbed over the safety barrier and jumped. The train was not arriving at that moment, so he was not hit by it. Police later found a suicide note in his bag, where he apologised to his family and wrote that the bullying by teachers made him feel hopeless.

Delhi Police registered an FIR against the accused teachers and the principal for abetment to suicide, and four teachers were suspended during the investigation. The incident created widespread anger, with students protesting and many people on social media demanding strict action. Mental health experts and some public figures asked for stronger anti-bullying rules and better support for students in schools.

This tragedy is the third recent case of student suicide linked to bullying in India, with similar incidents reported in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. These cases highlight a serious crisis, showing how bullying and neglect in schools are deeply affecting children. If anyone feels very sad, scared or alone, they should speak to someone they trust. Talking to someone can save a life.
