In a heart wrenching incident, an 11-year-old boy slept next to the body of his mother for two days without realizing she was dead. Annamma, a 40-year-old Deaf woman working as a domestic help, breathed her last while sleeping at home. Her husband passed away last year. She stayed alone with her 11 year old son at RT Nagar in Bengaluru. Annamma used to go out to work at houses as domestic help. However, in the last two days, Annamma was unwell and did not go to work. However, the son did not realize that his mother was dead and thought she was unwell and resting. He would go out to play with his friends and at their house. He returned home and slept for two days next to the dead body.
According to the neighbours, the incident came to light on 28th February 2023 after foul smell started emanating from the dead body after the body started decomposing. The boy had also informed the neighbours that his mother had not been talking to him since 2 days and sleeping and that there was a foul smell at his house. The neighbors checked on his mother only to find that she had died already and the body was in a decomposed state. The neighbours informed the police after which a team of police from the RT Nagar station reached the spot and moved the body for a post-mortem examination. Police suspect that she died on 25th February 2023 due to health complications as she was suffering from hypertension and diabetes.
The body had been handed back to the relatives for the funeral rites. Police said the reason for the woman's death will be ascertained in the post-mortem report. The boy told the police that his mother could not speak and was unwell so he thought she was really tired and sleeping. The boy is in the custody of his mother’s brother as of now. The incident of the boy staying in with his mother hoping that she would get up had melted the hearts of the people.
