12 BJP MLAs Suspended in Maharashtra

The Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra assembly started with chaos today as the house suspended 12 MLAs of the BJP for a year for abusing and manhandling the Speaker-in-chair.

Nana Patole had been the Speaker of the Maharashtra assembly. But he resigned in February to become head of Congress in Maharashtra. The 2-day Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra assembly started on 5th July 2021 and will end on 6th July. It was decided that elections would be held for a new speaker. Bhaskar Jadhav was the presiding officer in the house. The Assembly was discussing an OBC issue. However, the opposition party which is the BJP, said that Bhaskar Jadhav did not give them enough time to speak. There was a huge argument in the assembly. The matter escalated after the House was adjourned. Speaker-in-Chair Bhaskar Jadhav said that, "After the house was adjourned, the Opposition MLAs came to my cabin and abused me using very bad words in front of Devendra Fadnavis and senior leader Chandrakant Patil. Some MLAs even manhandled me."

According to Fadnavis, these allegations are not true. Nawab Malik, a leader of Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party, posted a video on Twitter, commenting "This was how it all started". A resolution was passed in the assembly to suspend 12 BJP MLAs for abusing and manhandling the speaker. A new speaker will be elected today.
