13 Die in Andhra Pradesh Train Accident
Train collision in Andhra Pradesh kills 13 and injures 40; rescue efforts underway, attributed to a signal issue and driver error.
Last night in Andhra Pradesh, A passenger train, going from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada, collided with another train, Palasa Express. In this horrible incident 13 people died and 40 got severly injured. This train had stopped on the main line between Alamanda and Kantakapalli because of a signal issue. Another train, the Vizag-Rayagada Train passenger train, hit it from behind. The back two cars of the Visakhapatnam-Palasa train and the front engine of the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train derailed. Government is working to finish the rescue efforts by this morning. The injured people are admitted and receiving treatment at different hospitals. A railway officer said that 18 trains have been canceled, and 22 trains have changed their ways. He mentioned that the accident happened because of a mistake by the Vizag-Rayagada train's driver, who unfortunately died in the crash. Railway sources had previously noted that the signal was not seen by the driver. Photos from last evening at the site showed derailed coaches and a crowd of people. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that, aside from the derailed and affected coaches, the site was cleared by midnight. The Railway Minister has declared financial help of ?10 lakh for the families of the people who have died in this accident. Those who are severly injured will receive ?2.5 lakh, and passengers with minor injuries will receive ?50,000. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has checked the situation and expressed his condolences for the lives lost. He also declared an additional ?2 lakh as a help for the families of the deceased and ?50,000 for the injured. The Railway Minister had a conversation with Chief Minister YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy. Mr. Reddy expressed his deep shock about the accident and instructed all necessary arrangements to ensure the treatment of the injured. He has also requested regular updates on the incident. The office at the Delhi railway ministry is continuously checking the situation, according to Railway sources. Nearly 5 months ago, a tragic incident occurred involving three trains in Odisha, resulting in the loss of over 280 passengers' lives. The accident happened on June 2 near the Bahanaga Bazar station and involved the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, and a goods train.
