A 13-year-old boy named Owen Burns from Michigan, US rescued his 8-year-old sister from a kidnapping attempt using just a toy - Slingshot. The incident took place on 17th May 2023. The young girl was looking for mushrooms in their home's backyard when a 17-year-old boy tried to abduct her. Her 13 year old brother who was in the house, heard her scream. He thought she was "messing around" with friends, but when he heard her scream the second time, he rushed to help her. 

The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed due to legal reasons, had seized the girl and forcefully covered her mouth to stifle her cries for help. From his bedroom window, the girl’s brother spotted the unfamiliar teenager approaching their backyard. Owen said, "So I looked out the window and saw her being abducted by a person and I freaked out. Her mouth was closed and he was hugging her on his chest. My sister kicked him and then he started running after her. I grab my slingshot and open the window and I grab two things - a marble and a gravel rock or something. "I was just lucky. He's just a big target because he's not like one Pepsi can.”
Armed with a slingshot, he took aim and hit the suspect "three times" in the head and chest. This left a mark on his face. And, he lost his grip on the girl. Another family member witnessed the attacker fleeing the scene and immediately contacted the authorities. The police acted quickly and arrested the suspect. He was hiding at a nearby gas station. During the investigation, the arrested suspect admitted his intention was to severely harm the young girl. Andrew and Margaret Burns, the parents of Owen and the little girl, said they were shocked something like this could happen. While the police have not released the name of the suspect, they said he will face trial as an adult.
