17 Cases of New Delta Variant ‘AY.4.2’ Found in India
17 cases of AY.4.2 variant of the novel coronavirus have been reported from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana.
Everyone is aware of the Delta Variant which is a strain of COVID-19. However now a new strain of the Delta Variant called the AY.4.2 emerged in the United Kingdom. It has also been observed in a few European nations like Denmark, Germany and Ireland. Because of the AY.4.2 there was a severe increase in infections in the UK. Initially the National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) said that there are 7 cases of the same AY.4.2 infection in Indore. Now there are seventeen cases of Delta Plus variant in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir and Telangana. Scientists say that research is still going on about this virus but what is known for sure is that it spreads more rapidly.
However there is no proof yet of it being more dangerous. Scientists are still researching to see whether the current vaccines will work to protect against the virus. Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that a government panel of Indian experts are also doing research on the AY.4.2
