188-Year-Old Man Found in Bengaluru Cave? Here’s the Truth
A viral video of an alleged 188-year-old man shows Siyaram Baba, a respected Hindu saint from Madhya Pradesh, estimated to be 110-112 years old.
On 3rd October 2024, a verified user on X (formerly Twitter) named ‘Concerned Citizen’ shared a video claiming an Indian man found in a cave is 188 years old. The post, which quickly went viral, received over 35.9 million views and sparked a lot of discussions online.
The video showed an old, bald, and hunched man being helped by two others, with the caption, “This Indian Man has just been found in a cave. It’s alleged he’s 188 years old.” However, fact-checkers soon revealed that the man is not a time-traveller but a respected Hindu saint known as Siyaram Baba, who lives in Madhya Pradesh.
Siyaram Baba is believed to be between 110 and 112 years old, with some local legends suggesting he could be as old as 130. He resides at Bhatyan Ashram in Khargone district, along the Narmada River. Baba is famous for his long-standing penance and is known to read the Ramayana without glasses. Despite his old age, he lives independently and rarely speaks, attracting thousands of devotees who come to seek his blessings.
After the truth came out, X added a disclaimer to the video, stating, “Misinformation! The elderly man is a Hindu Saint named 'Siyaram Baba' who lives in Madhya Pradesh, India. According to reports, he is about 110 years old.” The original poster later commented, “I’m embarrassed I even wrote 188. Anything over 120 would have been ridiculous…”
This incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially in the age of social media.
