A protest against the alleged sexual abuse of two young girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane district, turned violent on Tuesday. The incident occurred when protesters vandalized the school and blocked the local railway station, causing significant disruptions to train services, according to the police.
The protests began early in the morning when parents and local residents gathered at Badlapur railway station around 8 am. They were demanding strict action against those responsible for the abuse. The protest quickly escalated, with some protesters engaging in stone-pelting at the station. The rail blockade caused major inconvenience to many commuters as train services on both the Up and Down routes were disrupted.
The situation became tense as the crowd refused to disperse despite efforts by the police and other authorities to calm them down. Stones were thrown at the station, further escalating the violence. However, the situation was eventually brought under control when the Commissioner of Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the scene to help disperse the protesters.
The protests were triggered by the alleged sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls, aged three and four years, by a cleaning staff member at an English medium school in Badlapur. The incident came to light when one of the victims informed her grandfather, and a doctor later confirmed the abuse.
In response to the protests, the school management has suspended its principal and two staff members. This action was taken following the demands of the protesting parents, who insisted on strict measures against those responsible for the horrific incident.
