20 Passengers From UK Test Positive For COVID in India
20 passengers from the United Kingdom have tested positive for Covid-19 at airports in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.
The British government had warned of a potent new strain of the Covid-19 virus that can spread very fast. India on Monday 21st December announced to ban all flights to and from the UK between December 23 and December 31 to prevent the arrival of the new Covid-19 strain in India. However many passengers from the United Kingdom have tested positive for COVID-19 at airports in Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata. 2 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Kolkata. 1 person has tested positive out of 24 passengers who returned from the UK to Tamil Nadu. 7 passengers and a crew member who arrived from the UK in an Air India flight tested positive for Covid-19 in Punjab. 4 passengers including a British national who arrived at Ahmedabad on Tuesday 22 dec morning by an Air India flight from London tested positive for Covid-19. Six passengers at Delhi airport coming from the UK were also found positive for Covid-19.
Close to 2,000 passengers from the UK arrived at the Chennai airport in the past week. In the case of Kolkata, the number is close to 1,500. In Telangana, where 358 passengers had arrived in the past one week from the UK. Some of the passengers did not get RT-PCR tests done, after which they were tested again. The state governments have now initiated contract tracking of passengers who came from the UK or other European countries in the past 10 days. However, there is no information about whether the passengers tested positive for the new COVID or old COVID virus.
