2018 Vidhan Sabha Election Results
The election results for the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram were announced.
On 11 December the Vidhan Sabha election results for the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram were announced. Each state has a number of seats which the different parties contest for. When a party gets a majority number of seats, they have the power to form the government in that state.
In Madhya Pradesh out of 230 seats, the Congress secured a majority of 115 seats. Kamal Nath the President of the Congress party in MP has requested the governor to form the government.
In Rajasthan, out of 200 seats, the congress won 99 seats and the BJP won 73 seats. The Congress are the clear winners in Rajasthan too.
In Chhattisgarh too the congress have won with a clear majority of 68 seats out of the total 90. Whereas, the BJP has only secured 15 seats.
In Telangana, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party secured a majority of 88 seats. While the Congress and BJP secured 19 and 1 seat respectively. It looks like Chandrasekhar Rao’s will continue his rule as the Chief Minister of Telangana.
In Mizoram for the first time since independence, the congress will not form a government. The Mizo National Front (MNF) have secured the majority seats of 26 out of 40. They will form a government in Mizoram.
The country does not seem very happy with the BJP government's policies. These elections have shown the congress to be winners in a majority of state. This will help them in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
