35 Lakh Women Form Human Wall in Kerala
Many women from all walks of life, come together to form a human wall to support gender equality.
The CPI[M] government in Kerala, has decided to allow women to enter the Sabarimala temple. In 2018, an event was planned, were many devotees stood in a line with Ayyappa Jyothis [Lamps] promising that they would never let women enter the Sabarimala temple.
To show support for gender equality in Kerala, the state government organised a program on 2nd January 2019, where 35 lakh women stood in a line across the national highway in Kerala.This line was 620 km long. People called it a human wall.
The line started from the north of Kasargod to the south of Thiruvananthapuram. Female actors, athletes, politicians, government officials, housewives, engineers came from 14 different districts in kerala to take part in this event.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan was present at this event.The Universal Record Forum [URF], which record amazing achievements in the world, said that the human wall was the ‘longest women’s wall in the world.’
A similar wall was formed by men in Kozhikode to show support to the women. Similarly in Mumbai, 1500 women came together at Shivaji Park and created a women’s wall to show their support.
