4 Married Women Run Away With Lovers Taking PMAY Money

Four men in different panchayats of Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district are struggling with one problem–their wives ran away from homes with their lovers. But what makes the case even more complicated is these women got money under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and then left their husbands. The government provides financial assistance to people to build their houses. Under the scheme, the female head of the family has to be the owner or co-owner of the house.
The four women, thus, received the sum of Rs 50,000 in their bank accounts as the first installment under the scheme. They soon abandoned their families and ran away with their lovers. The bizarre incident came to light after the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) noticed that the four families were yet to start house construction after receiving the first installment. Notices were served to the four beneficiaries but no response was received. The probe to check whether the fund was misused led the officials to the helpless husbands. The men are worried that they would be held responsible for the misused money and that they might receive a recovery notice. Left with no other option, husbands finally reached the DUDAoffice and told the authorities that their wives had left with their lovers and asked the DUDA officials to not credit the second installment of PMAY. The case has left officials baffled as they are in the process of tracking the women .
