43 Wedding Guests Test Positive in Kerala
Around 43 individuals in Kerala have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a wedding ceremony.
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, there are restrictions against mass gatherings all over the country. In Spite of the rules, on 17th July more than 125 people attended a wedding ceremony in Chengala which is in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. Reports said that out of the guests who attended the wedding on 17th July, 43 people have tested positive for coronavirus. The bridegroom and bride are also infected with the virus. The Kasaragod District Authority said that Badiyudukka Police have filed a case against the father of the bride under the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2020. Whoever has violated the rules may get up to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. As per the rules, only 50 people are allowed to attend such events. The father of the bride was the first to test positive for coronavirus. He and the groom had returned to Kerala from Dubai a few months ago. All those were tested positive, have been asked to go into home quarantine for 14 days. Those having Covid-19 symptoms have been asked to contact the nearest primary health centre. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in areas that fall under Kasaragod, Manjeshwaram, Hosdurg, Kumbala, and Nileshwaram. No public transport facility is allowed in the areas.
More than 20,000 Covid-19 tests are being done every day in Kerala.
