5 Aboard the Titan Submersible Dead
All 5 passengers of the missing Titan OceanGate submersible were killed after a catastrophic implosion.
Nearly four days after the Titan Submersible went missing, the US Coast Guard said that a robotic diving vehicle deployed from a Canadian ship discovered a debris field from the submersible Titan on Thursday morning on the seabed some 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic. Five major fragments of the Titan were located in the debris field. The coast guard said they found 5 pieces of the Titan. No mention was made of whether human remains were sighted. After analyzing the debris, officials said, they feel the Titan had imploded. An implosion refers to the collapse or failure of a structure or vessel caused by overwhelming internal pressure. When the pressure within a confined space becomes too much for the structure to bear, it gives way suddenly and forcefully, leading to a catastrophic collapse. They’ve notified the families of the crew of the Titan. The firm's co-founder, Guillermo Söhnlein, told the BBC that he believes there may have been an "instantaneous implosion" of the craft after the Submersible lost contact with the mothership. There must have been some tech problem that caused the titan to implode.Mr Söhnlein added that his "biggest fear" during the search was that the Titan had surfaced after communications had been lost - which he said would have been standard protocol. "In which case it becomes very difficult to find the sub, because the surface ship wouldn't have known it was coming up and wouldn't have known where to look."
The U.S. Coast Guard also announced that remote operating vehicles (ROVs) would continue to operate on the sea floor. They will meticulously investigate the debris field surrounding the Titanic. They said it is very difficult to find the bodies, but they will try their best. US, Canada, and France gave high-tech technology and their navy to rescue the Titan Submersible and the 5 people. The US and Canadian governments said they are searching for the submersible and treating it just like any other boat that got lost. With all this, the total sum so far is well in excess of six and a half million dollars. To date, no one knows whether it will be the taxpayers of the countries involved, the affected ones themselves, or some insurance consortium that will bear the brunt of the cost. However, people feel the US will not ask the company Oceangate to pay. it is not known if the participants in the expedition contracted any travel insurance that could take care of their rescue in case they had complications as has happened.
Taking into account that four of them paid 2 crores for the expedition, and the fifth is the owner of the company that makes these expeditions, there shouldn’t be much of a problem for them or their companies to pay for the rescue. Azmeh Dawood — the older sister of Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood — told NBC News that her nephew, Suleman, informed a relative that he "wasn't very up for it" and felt "terrified" about the trip to explore the wreckage of the Titanic. But the 19-year-old ended up going aboard OceanGate's 22-foot submersible because the trip fell over Father's Day weekend and he was eager to please his dad, who was passionate about the lore of the Titanic. The CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush — who was on board his company’s submersible that went missing earlier this week and is believed to be dead — was married to Wendy Rush. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Straus, two passengers who lost their lives in the sinking of the Titanic. Straus and Ida had emigrated to the United States from Germany and boarded the Titanic after returning to their native country for a visit. Their fateful voyage across the North Atlantic Ocean ended on April 14, 1912, when the passenger liner hit an iceberg. The older Straus refused to board after realizing that younger men were denied positions on lifeboats. Ida, in turn, refused to leave her husband’s side, reportedly saying, “Where you go, I go.”
Her maid, Ellen, survived with a fur coat — a departing gift from Ida. The couple were reportedly last seen holding hands on the ship’s deck before being swept away. The Straus' story was portrayed in Cameron's film as an elderly couple that chose to spend their last moments in bed together as water rushed into their room. Sadly now Wendy lost another family member to the Titanic.
