Acid attacks are the most horrible crimes that not only cause physical pain but emotional and psychological problems to victims. When acid is thrown on a person’s face the pain is unbearable. The skin starts burning, bones dissolve and the skin is badly damaged. A person can lose their eyesight. Acid victims become depressed and face a lot of discrimination from the society as well.In India, acid attacks are a huge problem where the victims are usually women. However, there are many acid attack survivors who do not give up on life and continue fighting.

Laxmi Agarwal:
She was attacked with acid when she was just 15 years old. In 2005, she was attacked for rejecting the advances of a 32-year-old man. She's now working to bring stricter laws on the sale of acid in India; she's also been supporting thousands of acid attack survivors. She has been an inspiration to many. Deepika Padukone's upcoming movie Chhapaak is based on Laxmi's life.

Pragya Singh
Pragya was newly married in 2006. One day she was travelling alone in the train when a man attacked her with acid because she had refused to marry him. She lost sight in one eye and underwent 15 surgeries. Today, she runs an NGO named Atijeevan Foundation, which arranges surgeries/treatments for free for acid attack and burn survivors.

Daulat Bi Khan
She was 26 years old when she was attacked with acid by her elder sister and brother-in-law. She had to undergo many reconstruction surgeries after the assault. However, she didn't give up on life. She went on to start the Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation, based in Mumbai, which provides support, medical care, legal assistance, and employment opportunities for acid attack survivors.

Anmol Rodriguez
She was only two months old when her father attacked her and her mother with acid. Her mother died but Anmol survived; she grew up in an orphanage.She decided to pursue a fashion career as she'd always been passionate about it. Today, the 23-year-old is not only a successful model but has also helped many acid attack survivors find jobs.

Chandrahass Mishra
We all think that acid attacks mostly happen only with women. But the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 40% of acid attacks in India happen with men.Chandrahas Mishra is 34-year-old and is a businessman from Meerut. He saw that his landlord’s son would keep harassing women. When Mishra tried to stop him, the landlords son threw acid on his face. He suffered a lot and is an activist for acid attack survivors and works with several NGOs too. A big salute to all these people. These people are an inspiration and we all must learn from them and live our life with the same passion.
